This piece was commissioned by the brass band of my alma mater, Toke Junior High School in Chiba.
It consists of four sections, each with its own distinct atmosphere.
While Tales of the Star can be interpreted freely as each performer envisions their own mythological world, you might, for example, draw inspiration from the constellations of autumn: Andromeda, Perseus, the sea monster, and Pegasus…Please turn imagination into creativity, and bring this work to life with a beautiful performance.
The piece can be performed on a single marimba (C28–C76, 4 octaves).
Pedal timpani are required.
Wind chimes may be shared depending on the setup.
For the glass harp, if possible, prepare two instruments capable of producing higher pitches and slightly offset their tuning to create beats.
