There is a sound line in a thin plate that is similar to that used for snare drums. By hitting the board, the sound lines resonate and make a jerky sound. You can play it by attaching it to the striking surface or side surface of the cajon, but you can also get the sound by holding it in your hand and hitting it, or by placing it flat and hitting it.
There are more sound lines inside than a low buzz board, so the sound is thicker.
