Description
Yosuke Nomoto – A Popular Work Full of Unique Extended Techniques
Composer: Yosuke Nomoto
Duration: Approx. 4’57”
(Based on reference recording. Actual performance time may vary depending on tempo and interpretation.)
Composer’s Note
This piece was commissioned by the Yamaha Symphonic Band Hamamatsu for use in ensemble competitions.
Following LUNA (2007) and GEMINI (2008), it stands as the third work in the series.
The title Tipoeus (also known as Typhon) comes from Greek mythology: a monstrous god who fought fiercely against Zeus. The name is said to be the origin of the word “Typhoon.”
The music is built on the confrontation between a theme using major sevenths and augmented intervals, and a chant-like theme inspired by church modes. It shares rhythmic and intervallic motifs with the earlier works, as well as with “Star Story – Chapter of the Wind” composed around the same period.
Beyond melody, harmony, and rhythm, this work emphasizes sound textures created by special instruments and extended techniques. Aim for a performance that brings out depth and resonance.
