Composer’s Comment
This piece was composed especially for the JPC Ensemble Collection 2019.
Each of the five players performs on a unique setup featuring different pitches and timbres, intertwining to create a rich ensemble texture.
The piece begins in a minimalist style with repeated strikes on wooden fish (mokugyo), leading into a spirited first section with soloistic exchanges among the drums.
The middle section features mysterious timpani glissandi and waltz-like phrases, before driving energetically toward a powerful finale.
The composition concludes by returning to the same wooden fish ostinato heard at the opening.
