Two percussion party / Ni-Da-Soh-En - marimbas and - for percussion instruments
Description
Kaoru Wada: A commissioned work by Tomohiro Nishikubo, percussionist of the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra. [Mar+Perc]
This work was commissioned by percussionist and marineist Tomohiro Nishikubo in the spring of 2019, and was completed in November of the same year.
When composing the song, I tried to make the most of the characteristics of a duo with the same attributes: marimba and percussion instruments.
In particular, the marimba takes a solo position, and the percussion instruments stand up against it with orchestral elements, in other words, a concerto-like composition is attempted in this work.
The song consists of four distinctive parts. It begins with a quiet passage on the marimba and plays a fragmented motif, while the percussion instruments respond to the phrase.
Next, there is a cadenza-like part that expresses the space between the marimba and the percussion instruments. In response to this ultra-temporal sound, a magical, Buddhist-like ostinato begins with percussion instruments, and gradually rises to a high pitch, leading to the final allegro. The author coined the title ``Ni-Percussion Banquet'' to convey the meaning of a rhapsody performed by a percussion duo.
