[Report] Cymbal selection meeting & clinic by Satoshi Seki
Saturday, June 7, 2025: Welcoming Siena Wind Orchestra percussionist Satoshi Seki
We held a "Cymbal Selection Meeting & Clinic".
Thanks to your support, advance reservations quickly filled to capacity of 20 people, and the day was a great success.
Clinic & Public Lessons
The clinic began with a profile of cymbals, and Mr. Seki gave an easy-to-understand explanation of the practice methods he uses on a daily basis and how to deal with stress, including demonstrations.
In particular, when he was explaining how to practice by creating a half-open hi-hat cymbal on his own, the students, including myself, were nodding their heads while listening to the explanation. The public lesson that followed covered basic playing techniques from pp to sf and orchestral style, and although the time was limited, it was very fulfilling, and it was a meaningful time with great learning for both the students and the audience.
Cymbal selection meeting

At the selection meeting, Mr. Seki actually selected the cymbals based on the contents of the clinic.
- Zildjian K Classic Symphonic 18 inch/20 inch matching cymbals 1 pair each
- Zildjian K Classic Symphonic 18 Inch Suspended Cymbals 1 Piece
- ZIldjian K Constantinople 18 inch matching cymbals 1 pair
At the time of selection, participants were asked to explain the differences and characteristics of the sounds through demonstrations, and participants made selections from a professional perspective.
I was able to experience the process up close.
