Drum City Original Stick Part 4 Nylon Tip DCMN&DCHN
There are countless types of sticks in this world, but what kind of sticks do you use?
There are many things to consider, such as length, thickness, weight, balance, tip shape, and material.
Stick manufacturers and drum manufacturers offer many options, and the lineup is constantly expanding and contracting to meet the needs of everyone.
However, we often receive a variety of opinions, such as ``If only things were a little more like this in that model'' and ``I want that model that has been discontinued.'' Meanwhile, Drum City has prepared several types of original sticks that are carefully selected to reach those itchy areas.
Drum City original stick review part 4! !
This time as well, we would like to ask Mr. Uichiro Ichikawa, an instructor at Asakusa Drum Dojo, to give us a review and tell us about its usability and key points.
We hope you will find this helpful in choosing your stick.
*This article has been added and revised from the one published in "JPC No. 171" published in January 2022.
▶ This time we will introduce nylon tip models DCMN & DCHN
The latest model in the Drum City original stick lineup, and the first stick with a nylon tip. Standard sizing is used for thickness and length, and two types of wood are available: maple and hickory. With the same balance, you can fully enjoy the difference in sensation depending on the material.
Also, nylon tip sticks are often a little more expensive than wood chip sticks, but this nylon tip stick is designed with an eye toward an affordable price.
If you're having trouble finding a stick with a nylon tip, we recommend this one.
▶ Mr. Uichiro Ichikawa tried it out and asked him what he thought about it, including how it felt to use.
At first glance, it looks like an orthodox stick. There used to be a lot of them, this type that seemed simple and easy to use.
The shoulder part has a narrow diameter that makes it easy to flex and stick to the rhythm, and the grip part is thick enough to support powerful play. In addition, this model has a nylon tip that prevents chipping. If you're thinking, "What should I do?", then you have no choice but to buy this.
But don't hurry, you'll be cool. When it comes to nylon tips, what you are concerned about is the sound quality. In particular, when I hit the cymbals, no matter what I do, I get that hard metallic sound. Well, if you like it, there's nothing to say, but if it's your first time, you're probably curious, right?
So this time, I chose something a little heavier. This should calm down the cymbal sound that makes a lot of noise in the high range. I chose one (hickory wood) that weighs 60 grams each. It is not easy to control this stick smoothly and smoothly at a fast tempo.
For such people, we recommend 58g or 56g per bottle. This will not only make it easier to control, but it will also put less strain on your muscles.
For those who prefer a lighter and brighter sound, the maple version may be better. The one I chose is a 48g model, which is a bit heavier than other maple materials, so it's easy to control and won't put strain on your arms or wrists even when you play for long periods of time. The sound will be lighter, but it may be perfect for bright pop music, bossa nova, etc. The sound of the Latin rimshot sounds crisp and refreshing.
Finally, please take a look at the logo printed on the body. “DRUM CITY” is all there is to it. In this day and age, where people are trying to make a big deal in order to not sell, isn't it amazing! When I told the staff, they said, ``This is to reduce costs.'' Hey, that's it. Still, if I can buy it cheaply, I can't complain.
By the way, like everyone, there are times when the stick doesn't fit in your hand. Just like the pillow you always use doesn't fit anymore. At times like this, even if you are unsure whether to use a feather pillow or buckwheat shells, you may end up choosing a low-resilience sponge, but in the end the discomfort of sleeping will not be resolved. In the same way, if you are unsure about a stick, it's best to go back to an orthodox model that doesn't have any quirks. That kind of stick is exactly what makes this model.
Tonight, as you rest your pillow on your head, think about this. Well then, good night!
