Composer’s Comment
This piece takes the string quartet and the classical (dance) suite as its model, while incorporating modern and contemporary elements.
It begins with a short introduction presenting the four-note motif D, A, B♭, and E♭, along with dotted rhythms. It then moves through four sections performed consecutively: a moderate-tempo 4/4, a fast 9/8, a solemn and expansive 3/4, and a brisk 12/8.

For instruments that carry pitch, I selected marimba, vibraphone, tubular bells, and timpani. To highlight the essential percussion element of timbral variety, metallic and membrane instruments are placed throughout, with several types of mallets specified.

Please approach this piece not only as an image or impression, but by building the music carefully from each individual note.
