[Comporser's Comment]
Inspired by the imagery of “Ao” (蒼)—as in Tōzan Sōsō (遠山蒼蒼)—this work is built around the vast and profound shades of blue. Throughout the piece, it portrays the soaring and floating figure of a winged being. The marimba expresses the “sky,” the “voice,” and the very “form” of this abstract presence—something that cannot be fully defined, yet vividly felt.
Both the quartet and quintet versions follow the same musical flow. Likewise, if you wish to expand or reduce the ensemble size, feel free to adapt it as long as the essence of the work remains unchanged. In such cases, simply adjust the title to “The Azure Wings Soaring Across the Sky – for Percussion ○tet” by replacing ○ with the appropriate number. Instrumentation may also be modified freely, as long as it does not alter the fundamental spirit of the music.
This is a piece that invites imagination to become creation. We look forward to hearing performances filled with your ensemble’s individuality and unique colors.
