I wanted to let you know about a Clinc/Masterclass that I will be presenting over Zoom, which I thought may be of interest for your students and former students who are now teaching and performing. It is based on my book, Percussion Pedagogy, published by Oxford University Press.

Overview of the event
Healthy Playing: How to Effectively Incorporate Concepts of Musicality while Maintaining Excellent Physical Health – a Hands-On Power-Point Clinic and a Masterclass Session (2 hr session)
Mind-body integration is essential to maintaining your mental and physical health throughout your career. This Clinic/Masterclass will focus on the physical components that integrate practical, logical concepts that effectively meld Stickings with Stroke-Types, creating musical fluidity. This clinic portion will take approximately one hour. A Question and Answer session is included.
For the second half of the class, Professor Udow invites six (6) participants who would like to refine their performance to be prepared to play any of the following excerpts:
• Glockenspiel – The Sorcerer’s Apprentice – Dukas (Vif Reh.[17]+4 to [18]Xylophone –• Hary Janos Suite Entrance of the Emperor and His Court 12 measures from Alla Marcia + 4
• Tambourine – Carnival Overture – Dvorak [U – 8] – end.
• Marimba – Libertango – Piazzolla, arr. Sammut (M.46 -51). or any composition or excerpt on any percussion instrument that you are working on where you think you are having to use undue muscle tension to execute the passage.
Each performer will be allowed 10 minutes to play and be coached in a masterclass setting with auditors watching, and must pay a premium fee on a first-come, first-served basis. Auditors may attend the entire class at a lower fee.

Biography
Michael Udow
Michael Udow is a percussionist, composer, and Professor Emeritus of Percussion at the University of Michigan, where he taught from 1982 to 2011. He also enjoyed a long tenure as principal percussionist with The Santa Fe Opera (1968–2009). Udow is the author of Percussion Pedagogy: A Practical Guide for Studio Teachers, a comprehensive 472-page resource published by Oxford University Press, accompanied by 400 instructional videos.
As a performer, he has toured widely as a soloist and collaborated with artists and ensembles including Keiko Abe, Summit Brass, Equilibrium Dance and Percussion Duo, and Tone Road Ramblers. Udow has also served as composer-in-residence with the Colorado Chamber Orchestra, and his compositions have been recorded by leading ensembles such as the Rhode Island Philharmonic and Boulder Philharmonic.
His animated film Echoes of the Past earned major recognition, including an award at the Picasso Einstein Buddha International Film Festival (2020), along with multiple international festival honors. His sixth opera, Hurting, Healing, Hoping, is scheduled to premiere in October 2026 at the Gryphon Theatre.
