[Report] Nobuyuki Hirao’s Cymbal Clinic in JPC
On Monday, January 14, 2019 (holiday), we held a cymbal clinic with percussionist Mr. Hirao from the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra.
Thanks to everyone's support, the planned capacity of 20 people was quickly booked up, and the clinic became a place where you could feel the cymbal fever in the community.

The clinic venue on the day will be transformed into a gorgeous cymbal exhibition hall with 10 sets of combined cymbals (Ziljian, Sabian, Koide) and 6 suspended cymbals (Ziljian, Sabian, Koide).
The clinic started with the history of cymbals, and we had them actually demonstrate in front of us the various ways to hold the hands, the basics of how to match cymbals, how to play cymbals, how to express dynamics from pp to ff, and daily practice methods, etc. At the end, we ran through about 5 orchestral songs, which was a very easy-to-understand and fulfilling orchestral study.
Right now, at this moment, I want to practice playing the cymbals without forgetting that feeling of wanting to hit! ! It was a very meaningful clinic that made me think, and time was up in no time.
Two hours just wasn't enough...
Personally, it was a great experience for me to be able to listen to Mr. Hirao play in front of me while explaining the characteristics of each manufacturer and hear the differences with my own ears.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the cymbal clinic and Mr. Nobuyuki Hirao.
